Buck Smith & Son

Owner, Designer, & Builder : Buck Smith of Bakersfield, CA.

Apparently Buck Smith started as a wood hull builder then did wood caps for fiberglass hulls.   A boat owner to be (or Buck) would line up someone to design the hull.  This could have been true only with hydro hulls, since Buck had a good flat bottom design of his own at that time.    Here is an example:

"Hoof Hearted" was a Blown Fuel Hydro. owned by Gary & Roger Cornwell of Reno, NV.  They had Harold Kindsvater design a hull and then got Buck Smith to build it.  These early hulls were all wood.  With the transition to fiberglass in the late 60s, many designers started making there own boats.
